Email from TeamUSA
March 2, 2011

Congratulations!  As a finisher in the Top 20 of your age group in the 2010 USA Triathlon final Duathlon Rankings, I want to take this opportunity to congratulate you for a terrific 2010 duathlon season! As you may or may not know, this Top 20 finishing place has earned you a right to potentially be on Team USA and compete in the 2011 ITU Short Course Duathlon World Championships in Gijon, Spain. The World Championship is set to take place on September 24-25.

If you wish to potentially be on Team USA and compete for your country at the 2011 ITU Short Course Duathlon World Championships, then here is how the process will work:

·         On March 2, 2011, USAT will be sending out an email to all athletes who are eligible for Team USA. The email will inform the athlete that they have until March 15th to email the Team USA department, teamusa@usatriathlon.org,  and let USAT know they are interested in a Team USA slot for Gijon.

·         All athletes interested in a Team USA slot for Gijon must email the Team USA department and declare their interest by 12pm MT on March 15, 2010 and receive confirmation back from USAT that they received their declaration and are now on the declaration list.

·         On March 17, 2011, USAT will contact the top two ranked athletes who emailed their declaration to the Team USA department by the designated date and are on the declaration list.

·         Should an athlete be contacted that they have earned a slot on the team, they will have one week to register and pay the $50 non-refundable deposit to hold their slot on Team USA.

·         Should an athlete not accept his/her slot by the designated deadline stated by USAT; USAT will then contact the next person on the declaration list.

·         This process will continue until we get two athletes from each age group who have officially held their Team USA slot or until we have reached the 20th ranked athlete in each age group.

·         Once ITU announces the race entry fee, USAT will then contact, via email, the athletes who are holding their slots and they will have one week to pay the entry fee to officially accept their Team USA slot.
